It’s time for this week’s Friday Thoughts post! I’ll be honest- this week has been a long one. I came down with a stomach bug (yuck) today and had to leave work early. Does anyone else feel insanely bad and guilty when they have to take the day off? I just hate anyone else having to take over my stuff for the day or inconveniencing families that I need to reschedule. Sigh. I’m trying to give myself a break, but it’s just so hard sometimes! Alright onto what else has been on my mind this week-
The Midterms– I was so encouraged that so many bloggers and influencers put out the call to vote! I know a lot of people want bloggers to stay out of politics, but it was so encouraging to see so many women with a platform using it for something that really mattered. And it paid off! There will now be 100 women in Congress, and 38 of them are women of color. Congress now has 2 Native American women, two Muslim women, and one Korean-American woman. We’re also sending the youngest women ever to Congress (just 29!), and there are 9 female governors. The evening wasn’t perfect, but it showed a hopeful step in the right direction for those of us wanting to see a change. Personally, I’m ready to see some accountability placed on the embarrassment that is our current president.
Thousand Oaks, CA– Another day, another mass shooting. There’s not much else to say given that a mass shooting has literally happened every single day in 2018. When will it stop? Well, the answer is never if we don’t do anything to change it. Contact your legislators. Keep voting for those who advocate for common sense gun control. Support Everytown. You never know when you could be the person just trying to have a fun night out with friends. No one is immune to these tragedies, and they won’t stop unless we demand it.
Daylight Savings– Ugh, is anyone else totally dragging this week? I feel like a toddler, but I’m just having the hardest time adjusting! The dark afternoons and overcast skies are just not doing it for me, and my mood is dipping along with the sun. It happens every year, and yet I’m just never ready. Any tips for keeping these moods at bay?
J. Crew– It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with J. Crew’s holiday pieces every year. From cozy sweaters to plaid scarves to velvet tops, they’ve got you covered. The best part? They’re having another big sale right now- 30% off your full purchase (35% if you have a J. Crew account). I’m currently eyeing this, this, and this. Perfect for holiday parties, right?
