I am not a beauty person. I would never attempt a make up tutorial or offer unsolicited advice when it comes to make up. I am genuinely stressed out by the idea of owning multiple types of one item (“How do you decide what blush to pick when there are three choices?!”), and I tend to buy the same things over and over. That being said, I am a beauty person when it comes to putting on make up each day to look and feel my best. I’m not very into experimentation with my makeup, but there are times I know a product isn’t doing exactly what I want it to do. When that happens, I tend to rely on my favorite bloggers for new product recommendations. I’ve come to believe that skincare is more important than makeup, but even the best product isn’t going to totally erase my under eye circles.
I’ve listed all the items from my current beauty routine below, and most of them are available during Sephora’s spring sale (which ends tonight!). So, if you’re looking for a change or to add something new to your current routine, maybe something below will be a good fit for you!
Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer– A girl at Ulta put this on me two years ago, and I’ve had it ever since. I can’t say I’ve tried many other bronzers, but I like how this one gives my skin a little glow. It may not sound like a huge ringing endorsement, but it’s been in my makeup routine a long time!
Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation– One of my biggest complaints with my makeup was that I felt like I’d put it on before work, and it was gone by noon. I tried some primers but didn’t love the way they felt on my skin. The second I tried this product I was obsessed. It doesn’t feel like I’m wearing foundation yet it provides enough coverage that my skin looks even and clear all day. The girl working the Nars counter explained that it has a water base and essentially sits on top of your skin as opposed to sinking into all those little imperfections. (A word of warning- it’s not great for those with dryer skin as it will just sit on top of those dry areas.) This one bottle lasted me a year and a half since you just need 1-1.5 pumps for the whole face!
Nars Skin Luminous Moisture Cream– Due to the composition of the luminous foundation, it’s important that your skin is really hydrated and provides a good base. I initially felt like I may have been duped when the Nars girl said it was important to use this with the foundation for best results, but, after two years, I can say she was right. The foundation goes on much better with this product, and both together provide a really, well, luminous look. And a big plus- this one container lasted me an entire Chicago winter! A little goes a long way.
Bare Minerals Stroke of Light– I add this to the inner corners of my eye just to give them a little more brightness.
Bare Minerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer– I have tried so many concealers in the hopes of hiding my under eye circles. I have really large, deep set eyes which makes for really large, deep set circles. This was the first product that didn’t crease into my little lines immediately!
Nars Velvet Shadow Stick in Goddess– Did I mention I hate how dark my eye area is? I sat down in the Nars chair and just said to the girl “Please find me something that doesn’t make me look like a ghost.” Now this is the only eye shadow I use! It’s simple but so brightening.
Glossier Boy Brow– You can only buy Glossier products from their website, but omg so worth it!! Boy Brow is my new favorite obsession as it makes my brows look clean, full, and even. Also, it’s easy to use which is always a big priority for me.
Glossier Haloscope– Glossier sells a set with this and their Boy Brow. I decided to give it a try, and I really like it! I’m pretty new to the highlighter game, but this one gives a nice glow without being super glittery. I use “Quartz.”
Esteé Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II– I started using this product back when I was a baby (aka 25). Then, I was too poor in grad school to afford it and left it behind. I recently got a sample from Nordstrom, and I swear my skin looked better the next day. I just bought the full size again, and I’m liking how my skin has been looking!
Esteé Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum Synchronized Complex II– Maybe I’m a sucker for buying the separate eye serum, but have I mentioned that I’m trying to erase my dark circles? (I know, you hate me.) I figure I’ll get through this bottle before deciding if it’s really necessary.
Bobbi Brown Art Stick Liquid Lip– I also bought this after getting a sample from Nordstrom. It’s a hybrid between a gloss and a lipstick which is about as close to a lipstick as I can tolerate. (I’m a little nuts about my lips feeling moisturized.) I have the shade “Rich Red” which is definitely a true red. Make sure you apply it carefully in a mirror though- my husband refers to this as my “Drunk Grandma” lipstick because it easily smudges if you put on too much!
Nars Lip Gloss– An old favorite standby. I’ve been buying it for years, and there’s not much more to say!
Nars Velvet Lip Glide– This newer product is similar to the Bobbi Brown one above. It’s a little thicker than the traditional gloss, and it has good staying power. I just bought a set of minis so I’m excited to try some new shades!
Stila Liner Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner– I never in my life could apply eyeliner until a friend introduced me to this one. It’s so dummy-proof that even I can do it. I also saw that they just released a “micro tip” version as well to make it more dummy proof!
Hope this information helps if you’ve been looking to add a new item to your beauty routine! I’m looking at adding the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial or Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask to my routine before the Sephora sale ends tonight! Comment on my latest instagram if you have an opinion!
