When you live in Chicago, you get really, really good at accessorizing as the temperatures start to dip. Let’s face it- we’re wearing coats basically October-April, and you can only buy so many coats. (Okay, I probably own an unhealthy amount, but that’s not important right now.) A few years back, I bought the stadium cocoon coat (now called the “city coat”) at J. Crew Factory in the camel color. It was simple, classic, average– and it was the easiest to accessorize! I started amassing a giant collection of scarves because I loved how I could entirely change up my look with a little plaid or stripes.
My absolute favorite scarf? This blue gingham cape scarf that I found a few years ago at J. Crew. I’m a sucker for anything navy/blue, and the fact it can act as both a cape or regular scarf means I can style it even more ways. To me, it just looks like it belongs in a pumpkin patch or on the sidelines of my non-existent children’s soccer games.
I can’t find an exact dupe (yet!- I’m still searching), but I’ve linked a few scarves, capes, and- a completely new to me word- ruanas that will give you the same look. If I’m making a bold patterned scarf the focus of my outfit, I tend to keep the rest of my outfit pretty simple with jeans and boots. However, I pretty much consider stripes a neutral at this point and think a thin stripe can mix with anything!
As sad as I am to bid summer farewell, I’m looking forward to throwing this on and making a Starbucks run this weekend. It’s the little things, you know?
